Six Sigma Retreat to Move Forward

This week’s 30 Rock is a must see for any MBA student, consultant, or anyone who’s worked at a Six Sigma company.  Jack (Alec Baldwin) and Lemon (Tina Fey) attend a Six Sigma retreat at GE and most of the jokes poke fun at business-speak, acronyms and team building exercises.  Some of my favorites are (1) meeting the Six Sigmas; the leaders of GE representing the pillars of the Six Sigma philosophy: teamwork, insight, brutality, male enhancement, handshakefulness, and playhard and (2) attending L.U.N.C.H.; the Lego Utilization for Negating Crisis Hierarchies.  The management jokes in this episode are priceless!  Watch it on Hulu here.

Giggle, Diggle, or Doogle? Google close to buying Digg

Two sites that co-enable my Internet addiction are potentially joining forces this week as Google looks to make a bid for Digg.com (via TechCrunch) .  From a user’s standpoint, this may be a great marriage of two complementary Internet services.  I manage my productivity almost exclusively with Google tools ( igoogle, gmail, gcal, google notebook, google scholar, etc.) and I use Digg as one of my primary portals to “news”, interesting websites, and the general atmosphere of the web.

So what does Digg get out of the deal (besides money for Kevin Rose)?  Google could certainly take Digg’s functionality, algorithm design, and their new (and highly criticized) recommendation system to the next level.  And with Google’s name and power on the Web, Digg’s user base will likely rise.
